So I finally got around to this (heavily spammed) novel that I saw in the BSFS group. Not only did it take a while to get to, it also took a while to read. Hoo-boy did it ever. And it was a really slow read at that.
I haven’t read Game of Thrones yet but I have heard of it being a bit dense and very slow in some parts. I think he gets away with it to some extent because of critical acclaim and lazy readers. But the author of this book cannot since he doesn’t have the same creative jones. And the sequel is even longer which fills me with dread even though it seems like he got the story threads tied together towards the end.
Overall, a good entry in high fantasy, but I wish the author didn’t go as heavy on the prose.
